Don't Quit in the Waiting
What do you do when you’ve prayed, worked and waited, and nothing seems to change? God is still at work while you wait, so don’t let delayed hope turn into defeated hope.
Proverbs 13:12 says hope deferred makes the heart sick. It might be the promotion that never comes, the business that won’t take off, the marriage that isn’t changing, or the prayer that seems to go unanswered. Disappointment rarely knocks a man down all at once. It drains him slowly, from excitement to impatience to discouragement to cynicism, until he’s still showing up, but his heart has checked out.
Waiting doesn’t mean God is absent. Like a seed in the ground, much of what God does happens below the surface where we can’t see it. We want the harvest while He’s growing the roots, and we want the breakthrough while He’s building our character. Sometimes we simply aren’t ready yet, and sometimes His answer looks different than we expected, but He is faithful even when our timeline isn’t. And while you wait, don’t go blind to what He’s already given you. Someone else is praying for the job, the family, or the children you already have. Don’t miss today’s blessings because you’re fixated on tomorrow’s promise. A man of God doesn’t quit because the answer hasn’t arrived. He trusts the One who holds it and stewards what’s already in his hand.

Gentlemen, every day is a battle. A battle for your faith, your family, and your purpose. The men who stand strong don't prepare when the battle arrives. They prepare before we get. Welcome to the men's morning devotion. Let's get into God's word. It's time to man up.
SPEAKER_01Good morning, gentlemen. I'm Chris Muigna, and it's time for another Man Up Moment. This week I'm continuing in Proverbs chapter 13, and with today's devotional being about Don't Quit in the Waiting. I encourage you to share this devotional with someone who you think would benefit from it. So Proverbs 13, verse 12 says, Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. Every man knows what it's like to wait. You work hard, but the promotion doesn't come. You take the risk in your business, but it doesn't seem to get off the ground. You pray, but the answer doesn't come. You make plans, but things don't happen the way you expected. You invest in your marriage, but you don't see any change. You pray for a wife, and somehow you're still single. You pour into your children, but you wonder if they're even listening. You have a dream, a goal, or a desire in your heart, and year after year you're still waiting. That's what Proverbs mean when it says, hope deferred makes the heart sick. When we continually hope for something and don't see it happen, disappointment can begin to wear us down. At first we're excited, then we become impatient, then discouraged, eventually we become cynical, and we start thinking, maybe it's never gonna happen. Maybe God isn't listening, or maybe it's not even God's will. Why should I keep trying? That's the danger of deferred hope. It doesn't always destroy us suddenly, sometimes it slowly drains us. And when a man loses hope, it can affect everything. He may still show up physically, but his heart has checked out. But here's something we need to remember. Waiting doesn't mean God is absent. There's a season in life when God is working, even though we can't see the results yet. Think about a seed planted in the ground. For a while, nothing happens. And messing with it could destroy whatever's beneath the surface. You can't see roots growing, you can't see that plant breaking through the soil just yet, but underneath the surface, something is happening. That's what God is doing in our lives. It's a biblical principle found in Genesis chapter 8, verse 22. Go back and read it when you have a minute. We want the harvest, but God is developing the roots. We want the answers, but God is developing our faith. We want the breakthrough, but God is developing our character. We want the destination, but God is preparing us for what comes next. The reality is maybe we're just not ready for what God has for us just yet. And that doesn't mean every desire we have will eventually happen exactly the way we want. Sometimes God's answer is different from what we expected. But we can trust that God is faithful even when our timeline isn't. Then Solomon says, just a couple verses later, in Proverbs 13, 19, he says, a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. There's something powerful about finally seeing a prayer answered, a goal accomplished, a relationship restored, or a dream becoming reality. It brings life and it boosts our faith tenfold. Men, don't allow the things you're still waiting for to make you blind to what God has already given you. Maybe you're waiting for more money while someone else would give anything to have the family you have. Maybe you're waiting for a promotion while someone else is praying for the job you already have. Maybe you're waiting for your children to grow up while someone else would give anything to have a child. Maybe you're waiting for the next chapter while God is asking you to be faithful in the chapter you're currently in. Don't miss today's blessings because you're obsessed with tomorrow's promise. Be faithful in the waiting. A man of God doesn't quit simply because the answer hasn't arrived yet. He learns to trust God who holds the answer and to steward what is already in his hand. So here's your man up challenge. Today, identify one thing you've been waiting for that has been discouraging you. Write it down, then underneath it, write, God, I trust you with the timing. Spend five minutes thanking God for the three things He has already given you. Take one faithful action towards the thing you're waiting for. If you're waiting for a better marriage, make the phone call. Plan the date. Start the conversation. If you're waiting for a financial breakthrough, make the budget, pay the debt, manage well what you already have. If you're waiting for a career opportunity, make the connection. Improve your skills. Submit the application. If you're waiting for something in your family, keep praying and keep showing up. Don't let delayed hope turn into defeated hope. You may not control the timeline, but you can control your faithfulness. So man up, keep planting, keep praying, keep believing, and keep showing up. Let's pray. Father, you know the things we've been hoping and praying for. You know the disappointments, the delays, and the moments we've wondered if anything will ever change. Help us trust you even when we don't understand your timing. Give us the strength to remain faithful in the waiting and the wisdom to recognize the blessings you've already placed in our lives. Help us become men who don't quit when the answer is delayed, but to continue to trust, work, pray, and follow you. In Jesus' name. Amen.
SPEAKER_00All right, gentlemen, you've heard God's word. Now go live it. Lead well, stand strong, honor God in everything you do. Share this devotional with another brother. Remember, every day is another opportunity to man up.
