It was a man's survival, his provision, his protection, his portion. And a well split with the whole town runs dry for everybody. That's the picture of marriage Solomon paints: Not restriction, but provision.
God didn't give you a wife to limit you. He gave her to you as a well that will never run dry if you tend it and never wander from it. But a well left unattended doesn't stay clean on its own. It has to be drawn from, maintained, and valued. A man who neglects his own well and then wonders why he's thirsty somewhere else isn't a victim of temptation. He's reaping his own neglect. You don't drift into faithfulness. You draw from your own well on purpose, every single day.

Gentlemen, every day is a battle. A battle for your faith, your family, and your purpose. The men who stand strong don't prepare when the battle arrives, they prepare before it begins. Welcome to the men's morning devotional. Let's get into God's word. It's time to man up.
SPEAKER_01Good morning, gentlemen. It's Christian Collati with today's Man Up Moment. And if you guys have been enjoying this series on Proverbs, make sure you share it with a brother. We're having a great time. And today we're going to be diving into Proverbs chapter 5 again, as we have been the last couple days and throughout this week. And today's devotional is called Drink From Your Own Well. And we find it in Proverbs 5, 15 through 16. Drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well. Should your springs overflow in the streets, your streams of water in the public squares? We see that Solomon is shifting things here a little bit. Last two days we've been hearing so many warnings, but now it seems like there's almost an invitation. His own cistern. His own well. You see, in the ancient world, a well wasn't a luxury. It was a man's survival. It was his provision, his protection, his portion. And sharing it, it wasn't generosity, it was foolishness. Because a well split between the whole town runs dry for everybody. And you see, that's the picture of marriage that Solomon paints. Not restriction, provision. God didn't give you a wife to limit you, he gave her to you as a well that will never run dry if you tend to it and never wander from it. You see, Proverbs never treats the ordinary parts of life as separate from godliness. Marriage isn't a quote unquote spiritual topic tacked onto the real topics of money and work. It's just as real. It's just as sacred. And it's just as much in need of daily wisdom. And you see, guys, here's what we miss. A well left unattended doesn't stay clean on its own. It has to be drawn from, maintained, valued. And a man who neglects his own well and then wonders why he's thirsty at someone else's isn't a victim of temptation. He's reaping his own neglect. You see, the fathers of our faith held marriage in the same honor. Not a lesser good tolerated for weak men. No, but a covenant. A covenant that's meant to be guarded, that's meant to be cherished, because it was given by God as a protection and gift together. And gentlemen, whether you're married, single, or dating, you don't drift into faithfulness. You draw from your own well on purpose every day. So here's our man-up challenge for today. Do one deliberate thing today to draw from your own well instead of neglecting it. Why don't you call your wife and tell her one specific thing you're grateful for about her? And if you're single, ask God today to build in you the kind of character that will tend a well well. You see, because provision it starts with attention. Let's pray. Father. Father, we thank you for a gift of a well that's ours to tend. Lord, forgive us for the days that we might have neglected what you gave us and looked elsewhere for what we have already had. Teach us to draw from our own well with gratitude, not obligation. Lord, make us men who guard what is precious. We love you, we praise you, and we thank you. In Jesus' name and his blood we pray. Amen.
