Fewer Words, More Wisdom
Do your words carry weight, or do they just fill space?
The wisest man in the room is often the one who says the least. The Bible isn’t against talking. It's against talking without restraint: the more words you say, the more room there is for sin. Most men don’t get into trouble because they said too little. They get into trouble because they kept talking long after they had anything worth saying. Today, we look at why holding your tongue is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Proverbs 10:19 isn’t about silence for silence’s sake. The point isn’t that some words carry some risk, but that in a multitude of words, sin is not lacking. Restraint isn’t weakness; it’s a sign that a man actually understands something, especially when he’s sparing with his words before he fully grasps what he’s talking about. A wise man isn’t quiet because he has nothing to say. He’s restrained because he knows every word he adds is another he’ll be accountable for. This is everyday wisdom, meant to be lived out daily, not just admired as poetry.

Your Daily Man-Up Challenge
In your next conversation today, whether with a friend, a family member, your wife, or a business partner, say less than you want to. This matters most if it’s a tense one. Let there be a pause before you respond, and ask yourself if the next sentence actually needs to be said or if it’s just filling space. Be a man whose words carry weight.

Gentlemen, every day is a battle. A battle for your faith, your family, and your purpose. The men who stand strong don't prepare when the battle arrives, they prepare before it begins. Welcome to the men's morning devotional. Let's get into God's word. It's time to man up.
Christian CalatayudGood morning, gentlemen. This is Christian Kaladiou here with you for another man up moment. And gentlemen, like I said before, if you're enjoying this, if this is touching you, if this is speaking to you, why don't you go ahead and share it with a brother? We're in Proverbs chapter 10, and today's devotional is called Fewer Words, More Wisdom. Today we're going to be diving into Proverbs chapter 10, verse 19, the New King James Version. And it reads, In the multitude of words, sin is not lacking. But he who restrains his lips is wise. I think it's important to note here that Solomon isn't against talking. He isn't against communicating. He's against talking without restraint. And we need to notice a little bit of the math in this verse. It's not some words carry some risk. It's in the multitude of words, sin is not lacking. You see, a man that shows himself prudent by being sparing with his words, especially when he doesn't yet fully understand what he's talking about. That is not weakness. Restraint is not weakness. It was a sign that a man actually understood something. And these sayings that we find in Proverbs, it's common sense that is now elevated into wisdom. And this is meant to be lived out daily, not just admired as some poetry that we read in the morning. This verse is exactly that kind of everyday wisdom. You see, most men don't get into trouble because they said too little. They get into trouble because they kept talking past the point that they had anything worth to say. Was it because someone stayed quiet a little too long? Or was it because someone couldn't stop talking? A wise man, which we are all aiming to be. A wise man isn't silent because he has nothing to say. He is restrained because he knows every word he adds is another word that he will need to be accountable for. So here's our man up challenge for today. In our next conversation, whether it be with a friend, with a family member, with our wife, or with a business partner. Our next conversation today, especially if it's a tense one, we need to say less than we want to. Let there be a pause before you respond and ask yourself if the next sentence actually needs to be said or it's just filling space. Let's practice being men whose words carry weight. Let's pray. Lord, we thank you for the wisdom of restraint. Lord Jesus, we ask that you would forgive us for the words that we might have spoken that added nothing but sin. Lord, teach us how to hold our tongue before we open our mouth. And Lord, help us speak only what actually needs to be said. Lord, make our words fewer and heavier. Make them worth listening to because they're worth saying. We love you, we praise you, and we thank you. In Jesus' name, amen.
SPEAKER_00All right, gentlemen, you've heard God's word. Now go live it. Lead well, stand strong, honor God in everything you do. Share this devotional with another brother. Remember, every day is another opportunity to man up.
