God’s Don’t Do List
Ever wish God would just hand you a clear list of what to stay away from?
Daniel Burgos opens our 2nd week in Proverbs by walking through the short list God says He hates — not to shame you, but to protect you from pain you can't yet see coming.
Most men spend years trying to fix their lives from the outside, chasing the better job, the bigger paycheck, the sharper image, while the real damage is quietly happening somewhere they never think to check. In Proverbs 6, God actually names the handful of attitudes and actions that break trust, wreck relationships, and slowly pull a man away from the people he loves most. The catch? A couple of them are probably sitting in your own heart right now, and you'd never call them a problem.
If you want to be the kind of man who makes every room stronger instead of more divided, don't skip this episode.

Gentlemen, every day is a battle. A battle for your faith, your family, and your purpose. The men who stand strong don't prepare when the battle arrives. They prepare before it begins. Welcome to the men's morning devotional. Let's get into God's word. It's time to man up.
SPEAKER_01Welcome to the men's morning devotional. I'm Danny Urgos and I have the privilege of spending some time with you this week. If you notice an accent and are wondering where it's from, it's because I'm originally from Colombia. I moved to the United States five years ago and now I have the blessing of being part of Metro Life Church. Today we're kicking off our second week in the book of Proverbs. My brother in law Chris Munya did an incredible job leading us through last week's devotionals. And I'm excited to continue our journey through Proverbs with you. So here's your man up moment. True wisdom looks like loving what is pure and leaving what is broken. Proverbs chapter six verses sixteen through nineteen says There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him, haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies, and a person who stirs up conflict in the community. Have you ever wished God would just give us a simple list of things to stay away from? In Proverbs 6, he actually does. He tells us about attitudes and actions that he hates. Not because he wants to make life harder, but because he knows all these things will hurt us and the people around us too. The list includes pride, lying, hurting innocent people, making evil plans, and causing problems between friends and our community. Every one of these things damages relationships, they pull us away from God and from the people He has placed in our lives. Take pride, for example. Pride makes us think we don't need help, that we're always right, or that we're better than others. And I'm sure here, man, we can relate a lot, but God calls us to be humble. Humility helps us grow, learn, and love people well. Then there's lying. Trust is one of the most valuable things we have. A single lie may seem small, but if it becomes a habit, it slowly breaks trust. And we all know that trust is very hard to rebuild. The last thing that really stands out to me is causing conflict between people and our community. It is easy to get involved in gossip or add fuel to someone else's problem. But God wants us to be people who bring peace, not more division. In those moments where gossip is knocking at our door, let's be mindful, let's be careful. Because we don't want to divide our family, we don't want to divide our church, and we don't want to divide the people around us. We should be peacemakers. The good news is that God doesn't give us this list to shame us. He gives it because he loves us. He wants us to protect us from the pain all these things bring and lead us into a life of peace and healthy relationships. Let's choose to walk in humility, speak the truth, and be peacemakers. When we do, we'll not only grow closer to God, but we'll also become the kind of men who make a positive difference wherever we go. And we as men, we're called to impact every single room we walk into. So let's be mindful, man, and this is your man up challenge for the day. Ask God to search your heart. Is there any pride you need to let go of? Have you been dishonest about something? Have you created conflict instead of bringing peace? Let's pray. Dear God, please clean our hearts today. Help us to love what you love and hate what you hate. Give us a heart like yours and keep us away from pride and lies. Let us be peacemakers. Let us speak in truth, in love and wisdom. That every person that comes into our lives can leave being edified and stronger. We love you and we trust you. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
