Medicine for the Soul
Every man knows what to do when his body hurts. But where do you go when the pain isn't physical? When we're sick, we take medicine. When we're injured, we treat it. Every man knows what to do when his body hurts. But where do you go when the pain isn't physical?
When we're sick, we take medicine. When we're injured, we treat it. But when we're discouraged, empty, angry, or carrying disappointment we haven't told anyone about, too often our answer is to push it down, stay busy, and keep moving. This episode is a reminder that just because you can keep moving doesn't mean you're healthy inside, and that real strength knows where to run when the soul needs healing.
A strong man knows where to go when his soul needs healing. God's Word doesn't just give information: it brings life. The same Jesus who spoke grace over the woven caught in condemnation, calmed the storm with "Peace, be still," and called life out of the grave is still speaking today. Being strong doesn't mean pretending everything is okay. Sometimes strength looks like admitting, "I need God," and running to His Word instead of away from it.

Gentlemen, every day is a battle. A battle for your faith, your family, and your purpose. The men who stand strong don't prepare when the battle arrives. They prepare before it begins. Welcome to the men's morning devotional. Let's get into God's word. It's time to man up.
SPEAKER_01Good morning, man. Happy Thursday. I'm Danny Burgos, and we've had an amazing week so far. If you have missed any of our episodes, just go back and listen because we've been opening God's word and it's been truly a blessing. And here's your man up moment for the day. A strong man knows where to go when his soul needs healing. Proverbs chapter 4, verses 20 through 22 says, My son, pay attention to what I say. Turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight. Keep them within your heart, for they are life to those who find them and health to one's whole body. When something is wrong physically, most of us know what to do. If you're sick, you take medicine. If you're injured, you treat the injury. And if something continues hurting, eventually you go see someone who can help. But what do we do when the pain isn't physical? What do we do when we're discouraged? When we are carrying disappointment, when our mind won't stop running, when we are angry about something that happened, or when we simply feel empty. As men, sometimes our answer is just I'll deal with it. And we just push it down. Stay busy, go to work, hit the gym, take care of our responsibilities, and keep moving. But just because you can keep moving doesn't mean you are healthy inside. Proverbs 4 gives us this incredible picture of God's word. Verse 22 says, They are life to those who find them and health to one's whole body. God is telling us that his words don't just give us information, they bring life. And we see this throughout the life of Jesus. When people came to Jesus broken, ashamed, afraid, confused, or without hope, his words brought life to them. Think about the woman caught in adultery. Everyone around her was ready to condemn her. But Jesus spoke words of grace and gave her a new direction. Think about the disciples in the middle of the storm, they were terrified, thinking they were going to die. And Jesus spoke, peace be still. The words of Jesus brought life into places that look dead. And man, his word still does that today. Maybe there's an area of your life that feels tired right now. Maybe there's disappointment you've been carrying, a mistake you haven't forgiven yourself for. Maybe there's fear you haven't told anyone about. Don't just bury it and keep moving. Bring it to God. Open his word and allow his truth to speak louder than what you are feeling or going through. When your mind says, I can't handle this, his word reminds you that his grace is sufficient. When you feel alone, his word reminds you that he will never leave you. Or when you have failed, his word reminds you that there is forgiveness and a new beginning in Jesus. That's why Proverbs tells us to pay attention, to listen, and to keep God's word close to our hearts, because there will be days when we are going to need them. Man, being strong doesn't mean pretending everything is okay. Sometimes strength looks like recognizing I need God. When your soul is tired, when your mind is overwhelmed, or when life has hit you harder than you expected, don't run away from God. Run to his word. Because the same Jesus who spoke life into broken people, storms, and even graves is still speaking today, and his words still bring life. Here's your man up challenge. Identify one area of your life that needs God's truth today. Write it down and pray about it. Let's pray. God, I thank you for this day. Father, thank you that your word brings life. There are areas in each of us that need your strength, your peace, and your healing. So we bring everything to you today. Bring healing to us and give us strength, Lord. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
