Danny Burgos opens a new week in Proverbs 9 with the verse every believer has heard and few have fully lived: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." Danny points to Jesus — the Son of God, holding all authority — who still said, "Not my will, but yours be done." If He submitted to the Father, what does that say about the independence we're so quick to call strength?
A wise man knows who is in charge. The fear of the Lord isn't dread; it's deep reverence, recognizing that He is God and we are not. The world tells men that strength means self-reliance, but biblical wisdom starts with surrender. Jesus knew exactly who He was, yet He came to do the Father's will, not His own. In Gethsemane, facing the cross, He chose the Father's plan over His own comfort. That's what fearing God looks like in real life: before a decision, in the middle of conflict, under temptation, or leading your family, you don't start with your opinion. You start with God. Needing Him doesn't make you weak. It makes you wise.

Gentlemen, every day is a battle. A battle for your faith, your family, and your purpose. The men who stand strong don't prepare when the battle arrives. They prepare before it begins. Welcome to the men's morning devotional. Let's get into God's word. It's time to man up.
SPEAKER_01Good morning, man, and welcome back to a new week of our men's morning devotional. I'm Danny Burgos, and if you're new here, we're glad to have you with us. And yes, that's a Colombian accent you're here. This week, as we begin Proverbs 9, we're looking at what wisdom looks like in the life of a man who follows God. Today we start with the foundation. I will encourage you to share this with a brother. Here's your manup moment. A wise man knows who is in charge. Proverbs chapter 9, verse 10 says, The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the holy one is understanding. I'm sure this is a very familiar verse to many of us, but no matter how many times we see it in the Bible, it always brings revelation in a new way. The fear of the Lord means having deep respect and reverence for God, understanding who He is, how great He is, and recognizing that He is God and we are not. And Proverbs says something very important: the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. In other words, if you want to become a wise man, it starts with understanding who is actually in charge. And that's something we see throughout the life of Jesus. Jesus was the Son of God, yet he lived in complete submission to the Father. He didn't come to earth trying to do whatever he wanted, he came to do the will of the one who sent him. In John chapter 6, Jesus said, For I have come down from heaven not to do my will, but to do the will of him who sent me. Think about that. Jesus knew exactly who he was, he had all authority, and yet he willingly submitted himself to the Father. As men, we can easily fall into the idea that being strong means being independent, making our own decisions, and not needing anyone to tell us what to do. But biblical wisdom starts somewhere different. It starts with surrender. A wise man understands I don't know everything, I don't see everything, I don't have all the answers. I need God. And that doesn't make you weak, it makes you wise. Jesus showed us this perfectly in the Garden of Gethsemane. He knew what was coming. He knew the pain of the cross was ahead. And he prayed, not my will, but yours be done. Jesus chose the Father's will over his own comfort. Man, that's what fearing God looks like in our everyday lives. It means we don't just ask, What do I want to do? We ask God, what do you want me to do? When we're making a decision, when we're dealing with conflict, when we're tempted, when we're leading our families, when we're thinking about our future, we don't start with our own opinion. We start with God. Because the moment we understand that God is the one who leads us, our decisions begin to change. And here's the good news God isn't asking us to figure everything out on our own. He wants us to trust him, listen to him, and follow him. That's where wisdom begins. So if you want to become a wiser man, don't start by trying to know more. Start by knowing God more. Get closer to him, listen to his word, seek his direction, and learn to trust his ways even when they don't match what you would choose. Jesus showed us what a wise man looks like, a man who knows who he is, knows who he belongs to, and is willing to say, not my will, but yours. Here's your man up challenge. Before making one important decision today, stop and ask yourself, what does God want me to do? Let's pray. Father, we recognize today that you are God and that you are the one who leads us. Give us the humility to understand that we need you and that we can't do this alone. Show us a way, Lord. Lead our steps and give us wisdom. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
SPEAKER_00All right, gentlemen, you've heard God's word. Now go live it. Lead well, stand strong, honor God in everything you do. Share this devotional with another brother. Remember, every day is another opportunity to man up.
